Midnight Run (1988)
An ex-cop turned bounty hunter (De Niro) will get $100,000 for bringing in an accountant (Grodin) that embezzled $15 million from a giant Chicago mob boss. It figured to be a piece of cake. Still, things turn unbelievably complicated when the accountant refuses to fly in a plane, and they end up being chased all over the country by the mob boss’ goons out to kill the quarry, the feds who want him as a witness against the boss, and a rival bounty hunter also out for the big money for bringing him in.
Top-notch comedy/action vehicle from the director of another great 80s comedy/action classic Beverly Hills Cop, Martin Brest. The pace never lets up as one hilarious scene after another go by in this thoroughly satisfying and funny adventure. De Niro is excellent as usual, but Charles Grodin steals the film in the best role of his career as the whining accountant, Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukas. One of my favorite comedies and very highly recommended.
