Bull Durham (1988)
An aging minor league catcher named Crash Davis (Costner) sent to Class A ball to keep a hot new pitching prospect’s head on straight. They both also become involved with Durham Bulls groupie #1, Annie Savoy (Sarandon).
It’s a simple story but funny and charming still. Ron Shelton wrote and directed this film, and while dealing strictly with the minor leagues, it’s still one of the best baseball films of recent years.
The cast is terrific, the feel is authentic, and the mix of comedy and drama is perfection. Highly recommended for baseball fans, and others will still find much to like.
