Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Brosnan (Mars Attacks!, The Thomas Crown Affair) returns in the role of the British secret agent, this time to bring down a media magnate played by Jonathan Pryce (The Age of Innocence, Glengarry Glen Ross). It seems that this mogul wants to use his power in the media to cause world events to happen, and take advantage of the aftermath. Tinkering on the verge of obtaining nuclear missiles, almost causing a third world war sparked by strife he caused between China and Great Britain, there’s no end to what he tries to achieve.

A relatively weak entry in the James Bond series, which is very disappointing considering the promise shown in the first Brosnan outing, Goldeneye. Michelle Yeoh (Wing Chun, Wonder Seven) is one of very few nice surprises as the first Bond girl that kicks butt, and the titles and theme song by Sheryl Crow are nice as usual. It’s watchable, and I suppose it delivers the goods, but it never rises above the usual Bond ground. Maybe next time folks.
