A San
Francisco poet meets an owner of a Meats of the World deli, all the
while falling more and more in love with her but also beginning to
suspect more and more that she is a fugitive murderess of her three
previous husbands who reportedly were killed or missing on their
honeymoons with her.
The film is
a mixed bag, with Mike Myers handling the comedy well, but showing
his limitations in the romantic scenes. It is occasionally funny, but
the moments of laughter come too few and far between to claim it
successful as a comedy. It's one of those films that throws in
nostalgic references to past and present cheesy songs and fads (much
like the WEDDING SINGER) for most of it's gags, and if you like those
sorts of things I suppose you'll enjoy this film more than I did. The
lighthearted film gets a little darker toward the end with a
Hitchcockian climax, which is only fitting since the film is
basically a semi-spoof version of SUSPICION. Watchable but
disappointing.
