Despite the tag line on the movie posters of the first Scary Movie claiming "No Sequel", the surprise success made the second film inevitable.  Scary Movie 2 is credited to at least seven writers, but only Shawn and Marlon has had any previous screenwriting experience (if you can call writing Don't Be a Menace and the first Scary Movie as being experienced.)  The problems are multitudinous, but the worst thing I can say about Scary Movie 2 is that you'll most likely feel worse in mood coming out of it than going in.

The film takes place a year after the first one, and the usual gang is back, doing a study in sleep disorder at Hell House overnight.  This house is possessed due to a bad exorcism, and all sorts of things go bump in the night as the horny teens try to stay alive.

I suppose the question most people wonder is, "Is it funny?"  Well, yes and no.  There are some funny parts to it, enough for me to be entertained while it was showing.  However, some of the gags poke fun at films that were either lampooned many times over or too old to recall (The Exorcist and Poltergeist), or the films are too unsuccessful to merit a spoof at all (The Frighteners, Hollow Man, and The Haunting).

What laughs there were came at a hefty price, and all too frequently I found myself wincing at some of the gags in disgust.  I would consider myself to have a high threshold for potty humor and sex jokes, and even if I don't find them funny, I can usually take the worst examples of them without being too put off.  Scary Movie 2 not only ventured far too often into the area of bad taste, it absolutely wallowed in it, and eventually became mired to the point of drowning in it's own mental diarrhea.  It's not that potty humor can't be funny -- it can if used properly (Blazing Saddles comes to mind), but a movie that is almost 90 minutes of bodily emissions leads to a feeling more of nausea than of hilarity.

If Scary Movie had you doubled over in laughter, Scary Movie 2 most likely will put you in the same position with dry heaves.  Scary Movie 2 is only recommended for people high in tolerance and low in brow.
