Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (1994)
Lee is the head inspector for the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau of Hong Kong, a sort of swat team battling Chinese crime syndicates. Tung is the leader of one of Hong Kong’s most notorious robbery rings. Lee puts on the pressure, forcing Tung to go on the lam , and all hell breaks loose in trying to track him down.
Kirk Wong, director of Jackie Chan’s CRIME STORY and the American film THE BIG HIT, also directed this competent crime actioner with deft style. The film is in the mold of THE KILLER (John Woo) in that the story has the duality of portraying both the cop and the baddie in a sympathetic way and portraying them as two sides of the same coin. Fully realized characters and terrific action sets this above the derivative plot for some intriguing and intelligent filmmaking. Recommended for the hard-boiled Hong Kong action crowd.
